Abstract: Sketching out a kind of African cartography of the Negritude movement, a certain Africanistic critic has often underlined the “legendary” absence of Gabonese intellectuals in this great ideological, political and literary battle waged by the first Negro-African poets. The present contribution aims to bring a formal denial to this point of view by showing that the poet, the musician artist and the Gabonese politician Pierre-Claver Zeng is a champion of post-independence negritude. For the sake of relevance, the article is based on about fifteen songs from his discographic repertoire and reveals there, using a systemic methodological framework, the three major definitional variations of negritude given by Jacques Chevrier, namely " the expression of an oppressed race”, “the manifestation of an original way of being” and “an instrument of struggle”. Thus through the corpus submitted to our analysis, Pierre-Claver Zeng, like the writers of Negritude, evokes the suffering, the humiliations, the despair and the revolt of the black people. His poetry also celebrates Fang cultural motifs, the grandeur and beauty of the Fang country and of Africa. In addition, the Gabonese songwriter inscribes his song poems in the fight against neocolonialism and the westernization of the African world.
