Résumé : Cet article se base sur des informations issues de sources et d’une bibliographie variées, pour sonder l’émulation scientifique et technologique via le projet électrique de station d’énergie thermique des mers d’Abidjan. Conçu en 1940 par Georges Claude et repris en 1941 par le gouvernement, ce projet porte l’originalité d’être iconoclaste en terre coloniale. Il est optimisé après 1946 par la société Energie des mers créée pour la circonstance. Mais ce cheminement résulte du lobbying d’un seul homme, André Nizery, et non d’une vision de tout l’establishment. A la mort de ce dernier en 1954, le pacte colonial triomphe, favorisé de surcroît par la décolonisation. En 1958, le projet est ainsi abandonné à Abidjan pour être transféré en Guadeloupe, fraîchement érigée en département d’outre-mer.

Abstract: This article draws on information from a variety of sources and bibliographies to explore the scientific and technological emulation of Abidjan's electric marine thermal power station project. Conceived in 1940 by Georges Claude and taken up by the government in 1941, this project was original in that it was iconoclastic in colonial times. It was optimized after 1946 by Energie des mers, a company created for the purpose. But it was the result of the lobbying of one man, André Nizery, rather than the vision of the entire establishment. When Nizery died in 1954, the colonial pact triumphed, aided and abetted by decolonization. In 1958, the project was abandoned in Abidjan and transferred to Guadeloupe, which had just become an overseas department.
